How BibleBot Works

Start in the workspace you are using. Read a little, inspect what helps, and keep what you want to return to. Close this guide to try a step; reopen it from Site menu → How BibleBot Works. Press Esc or choose Close guide at any time.

Show me: four short walkthroughs (opens in a new tab)

  1. Read and select a verse

    Choose the passage reference to pick a book and chapter or type a reference, then choose Load. Tap or click a verse to select it; with a keyboard, Tab to its verse number (announced as “Select … for study”) and press Enter or Space. The selection toolbar opens tools for that verse. Context, Compare, Dictionary, and similar tools use the selected verse. Use Tools for the rest. Study passage opens tools for the loaded passage instead.

  2. Read Context with its sources

    Open Context from the selection toolbar or the passage tools. Choose the verse, chapter, or book scope when available, read the background, and open source details to check attribution and coverage. Context adds explanation alongside Scripture; it does not replace the Bible text. Coverage varies, so an unavailable source does not mean that no explanation exists.

  3. Compare and follow references

    Use the translation choices in Reading to set the primary translation; choosing All shows the configured available translations together. Select a verse, then open Compare to compare that verse across your saved translation choices. References shows related passages: a Quotation identifies shared quoted wording, while a Parallel links a related account or passage. Wording can differ. Select a reference to inspect it, then close the overlay to return to reading.

    For a comparison that stays open, use Workbench → References. Your pinned passage appears above the results; choose a row's Compare passages button to read both passages together. Try Mark 12:29–30 with Deuteronomy 6:4–5.

  4. Explore words and phrase structure

    Language shows the Greek, Hebrew, or Aramaic source words. Choose a Study word link to read its dictionary entry and explore where it occurs. A gloss is a lexical aid, not a passage-specific meaning.

    Explore phrase structure shows how the source groups original-language words into nested phrases. It is most useful alongside the word tools; it is not an English sentence diagram. Availability depends on the selected passage and source data. Try Genesis 11:1–3 in Language.

  5. Gather material or save your work

    Send to Composer gathers a verse, source item, or Ask answer into Composer's Gathered material inbox on this device. In Composer, Add to draft inserts a copy into the draft; Keep for later saves it beside the draft without inserting it. Sending it does neither action automatically.

    For your own passage thoughts, open Notes, type in the note editor, and choose Save. A successful note save stores it in your signed-in account; wait for the confirmation before leaving. A saved note is separate from Composer's inbox.

    Save Ask answer keeps an AI answer on this device in Composer → More for this draft → Saved Ask answers. Save to account explicitly saves that complete answer in Composer’s Saved work on your signed-in devices; it does not upload other device answers. These actions are separate from a note and from Gathered material. Check Ask answers against the cited Scripture and sources.

  6. Find your work again

    Use the passage picker to return to the same reference, then open Notes to read its saved note. You can also bookmark the passage link in your browser. In Composer, the working draft, Gathered material inbox and device-only saved Ask answers stay in this browser's storage; clearing that storage can remove them. Ask answers explicitly saved to your account appear in Composer → Saved work on signed-in devices.

    Composer's Saved drafts lets you explicitly save and reopen a named account draft; it does not automatically sync later edits or the separate inbox and device-only Saved Ask list. Use Backup and export for a device backup. A Passage session export keeps navigation and settings, not note bodies or a complete backup of your work.

Other workspaces

Workbench starts with a research tool. Composer gathers sources and your writing. Explore Map explores places. These links open another workspace; browser Back returns to the workspace you left.

Studies is on hold. Its public catalog is suspended. Guided Studies are not part of this walkthrough.
